Sliding a whole number board, building triples in a holding tray and swapping neighbouring tiles are different tasks. Use the examples below to compare their inputs, limits and failure signals before choosing a puzzle.

Three ways to match, with different limits

Matching numbers, collecting a triple and swapping adjacent tiles do not use the same rules. These three examples show the difference; the full catalogue below includes other mechanics too.

Sheep Tile Challenge	Tap motifs into a seven-slot holding tray. Three identical motifs clear from that tray.	Clear the board and tray. Seven occupied slots without a clearing triple end the round. The timer records elapsed time rather than a countdown deadline.
Cartoon Match 3	Select two adjacent tiles or swipe one toward its neighbour. A horizontal or vertical line of at least three clears.	Reach at least 3,000 points when the 30 valid moves are used. Invalid swaps return without consuming a move; cascades can add points.

Make a first move that tests the rule

2048: choose one direction and watch all numbers slide. Look for equal numbers in the same row or column; two equal numbers can combine. The Undo control can restore the previous valid move.
Sheep Tile Challenge: find three matching motifs before taking unrelated tiles. After the third enters the tray, check that the group clears and frees space. Start with a simple triple so you understand the tray before filling it.
Cartoon Match 3: look for a pair that one neighbouring tile can complete. Compare Score and Moves after the swap. A successful swap uses one move, while the later falling tiles can cause additional matches.

If an example opens in another language, use its own language control. 2048 has an EN button; Sheep Tile Challenge has a language menu. The website’s language selector does not guarantee that every embedded game starts in the same language.

When a move does not clear anything

Different symptoms need different next actions
Symptom	Check the rule	Next action
2048 does not merge two tiles	They must have equal values and meet along the chosen direction.	Check the whole row or column. Tap a direction that can move tiles; selecting an individual number is not the move.
Sheep tray stays crowded	Two equal motifs do not clear; the group needs three.	Find the third motif before adding a different group. Undo is limited, so check its remaining count.
Match-three tiles swap back	The adjacent swap did not produce a horizontal or vertical match of at least three.	Try a different adjacent pair. The reverted swap does not consume one of the 30 valid moves.
Match-three score reaches 3,000 but play continues	The result is evaluated after the move allowance is used.	Continue using the remaining valid moves. Score reaching the target and the end screen appearing are different states.

Versions and the limits of this comparison

Checked 13 October 2026 against the active 2048 and Sheep Tile Challenge archives, version 2.0.1, and Cartoon Match 3, version 2.0.2. Rules were checked in the source and through normal game inputs; this is a comparison of these examples, not a claim that every puzzle has been tested on every device.

Catalogue order uses existing priority flags, recorded plays and publication dates. Being first does not establish that a game is the best, and a game’s update date is not the date of an independent review. Check each game’s controls and goal before treating it like one of these examples.
